Who are IPStar
The IPSTAR satellite, is one of the most powerful broadband satellite’s in service today anywhere in the world. Capable of total capacity of more then 45 Gigabits, it serves operations in 14 countries.
More information on IPStar can be found at their Australian and Corporate websites.

Mobile and Portable Satellite Internet and Phone Solutions
The aim of our proposal is a is to provide for our clients Portable Satellite Internet and Phone Ground Stations (PSIPGS), using a mobile vSat platform and technology, throughout Australia and most of Asia.
 Services for the PSIPGS include:
(a) Provision of Mobile vSat Transportable auto or manually aligned antenna system (MVS),
(b) Construct, modify and/or install a new or existing means of transporting the PSIPGS,
(c) Provision of broadband service utilising the IPSTAR satellite network,
(d) Provision 'add on' services including Wireless, VoIP, VPN, Narrow and WebCasting, Surveillance etc.

Satellite Coverage and Performance
IPSTAR provides a mix of(Regional Coverage) and(National Coverage) service beams across Australia. Spot Beams provide high powered coverage where Mobile and 85cm antenna’s are capable of providing maximum bandwidth.beams follow the Great Dividing Range, NW Northern Territory, and the South West corner of WA. Movement between the beams is possible, however it requires a different LNB receiver and other configuration requirements.

The rest of Australia is covered by aBeam which is accessible with a 120cm dish and a 3W BUC/Feedhorn, that will provide a sturdy broadband link, even in tropical storms. However, there are some areas around Australia where upload speeds could be limited on theBeam, in particular;
North of Broome, Tennant Creek and Cairns,
East of Cairns, Blackall, Griffith and La Trobe Valley,
South of Adelaide, Wagga Wagga and Ulladulla,
West of longitude 115, far North West Western Australia.

Higher upload speeds in these areas can be acheived by:
Installing a Dual BUC/LNB, so as to access both theandBeams (if one is available),
Upgrade the 3 Watt BUC/Feedhorn to 4 Watts,
Upgrading the dish size to 1.8m.

Satellite Aligning
We provide three different solutions for the satellite dish to align to the IPStar satellite:
(1) Auto Aligning system that locks on to the satellite within 5 minutes,
(2) Motorized Manual Aligning, using two toggle switches to move the dish, and your laptops browser to lock in to the satellite signal,
(3) Manual Aligning by hand, using your laptops browser to lock into the satellite signal.

Installation Progress
Some parts for these installations can take up to 6 weeks (from order) to arrive to us.
Manufacturing time on your project depends on the type, size and complexity of your order. We will supply you an estimated delivery date on the quotation.
Some variations will be permitted while your project is under construction.

Data and Phone Services
Data is measured adding both the downlink and the uplink usage.
We can provide data speeds from the satellite at 512kbps-4Mbps downlink , and 256kbps-2Mbps uplink.
Contention ratios vary from 1:1 (Exclusive), 5:1, 10:1, 20:1 and higher. A lower contention ratio means less users sharing the load on that particular link. Phone/VoIP services can be used on 20:1 contention links and lower.
Over the years, we have found all our customers needs are different, so we do not have any set data plans in place. We negotiate with our supplier almost ever data access plan on behalf of our client, so as to suit our customers needs best. At the time of requesting a quote, please advise us what your intentions will be using this service. All information given to us will be held in confidence.
Our satellite links can be: Always On; Up or Downgradeable in 36 hours, Seasonal, or Casual (with a nominal monthly fee). There is a small fee for each service change.
ROAM VoIP services over the Satellite link have QOS bandwidth controls dedicated to providing the best quality phone calls, and our exchange in Sydney is in the same building as IPStars network, so there are less hops for the call to reach the PSTN. Call latency over the satellite link is around 500-750ms, depending on your speed, contention, volume of traffic, etc.
As you will be using VoIP over the satellite link, calls are charged at VoIP rates.
VoIP uses between 25-100kbps, depending on the codec (software that compresses the data rate of the call). ROAM QLD uses the very lean 729a codec, which uses about 1MB every 4 minutes when in a call.
Payment for our Data / Phone services every month must be made within 14 days of the date of the electronic invoice, otherwise an overdue amount may be levied.

Warranties and Repairs
Should a part on any of our Portable Ground Station Units fail, you will be required to return it, or the complete unit to Roam in the Whitsundays, QLD,  or ScoastNet on the NSW South Coast for repair or replacement.
If on site service is required, we will attend sites anywhere in Australia. However, Roam/ScoastNet reserves the right to charge for additional travelling expenses if attendance is required in a limited access region.
The target service response time for on site maintenance is 10 working days depending on location and available service personnel.

Roam/ScoastNet is not responsible for repair or replacement costs if the fault was caused by:

  • non-Roam/ScoastNet equipment eg. your computer, generator, etc; or
  • interference with or modification to the equipment or a failure to use it in accordance with instructions; or
