Most genuine Twitter users have two types of people they follow -
their work group and their friends group.
Work Group may consist of friends within the same business and/or
trade, associates and competitors;
Friends Group may consist of old & new mates, suppliers, travel,
news, specials etc . . .
If you start a Twitter account, don't expect miracles
overnight - you need good, genuine followers, because you are delivering
a good, genuine product and/or service.
* Never pay for extra followers
* Follow others that have influence
* Always give credit - refer where you got your info
* Help a mate out - RT a tweet now and then.
* In most cases, it is common courtesy to follow those that follow
you . . . however, there are those that you would prefer not to follow.
Regularly review your followers list.
Facebook
is like the Message Board of the Internet
Facebook sometimes gets a 'bad wrap' for a lot of issues that are
most commonly the fault of the actual user. However, Facebook can
also be blamed due to its complexity, changing default settings, and
lack of information.
Facebook gives you and/or your business the capacity to make your
own website for the internet. It is an excellent way of letting your
friends know what you are doing, by message and multimedia. Recent
additions to Facebook have been Applications, like Games, Competitions,
Surveys, Feeds etc.
It is an excellent way for a business to keep their current and future
customers up to date on the internet, without the need to contract
a website designer.
Facebook is not 'bound' to your Internet Service Provider, Website
Hosting company or email provider. Should any of those services fail
for any number of reasons, you can advise your clients through your
Facebook page of your current issues and developments.
Foursquare
is like a live directory of the local area
Foursquare is a 'Geophysical' service that allows users to mark their
favourite places, and businesses to market their services to within
a particular area. Currently the technology is passive, where the
user 'checks in' to a suburb via a GPS enabled phone or laptop connected
to the internet.
However, very soon, services like this will soon 'push' venues ,
offers and advertisements to users who make a 'social media' post
with a GPS enabled device. A push tweet may be a nerby hotel offering
a discount for a room for the night, or 2 for 1 offers, if they present
that post to the counter.
Tourism Queensland is advising all tourism operators to be on Foursquare.
